This Wednesday, the luncheon meeting of RCFC at the Lincoln Center welcomes Dr. Carmen L. Menoni, a University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Colorado State University.  Following her intro by Ralph Smith, she will speak on an exciting new facility being planned on the Foothills Campus of Colorado State University. It is a public-private partnership between the University and a state-of-the-art European company, and is designed to bring the power of ultrahigh intensity lasers to the prospect of fusion energy. Completion of this facility will put the University at the forefront of an exciting new area of energy development, and provide jobs, undergraduate and graduate student training. Also, this project will ensure that CSU faculty will have the resources to conduct world-class research and development.

Born and raised in California, Jordan received his Ph.D. in Positive Developmental Psychology from Claremont Graduate School then taught at the University of Zurich.  In an effort to explore a wider variety of projects, he left academia and was hired full-time at Gradient Metrics.  As Research Manager, he helps businesses, non-profits and political organizations answer strategic questions, including through the use of survey instruments.  He enjoys hunting, gardening and hiking, and started a men's circle focused on self-development, still going strong after 5 years.  His wife, Amanda, is a teacher.
Last week we were introduced to the Terry Ranch Aquifer Storage and Recovery Project, the latest innovation from Greeley Water Utilities (GWU) in its ongoing efforts to supply water to Greeley and Northern Colorado.  The first speaker was Harold Evans, fellow Rotarian, and head of the Greeley Water Board. He was asked by Dave Stewart to describe the structure of the Greeley Sewer and Water Department. The Greeley Water Board was established in 1957 and consists of 7 citizen-volunteers appointed by the city council. Harold has been chairman of the Board for 24 years! Its members are not term-limited, and the Board (unique in Colorado) has the power to set water and sewer rates. Harold introduced Sean who presented today’s topic. Sean Chambers is Water Utility Director and lead for the Terry Ranch Project (and a fellow Rotarian).

Replacing our usual noon meeting, the Service Above Self awards event was held at the Lincoln Center the evening of Wednesday, April 17th.  Organized by Judy Boggs, Sue Wagner, and Susie Ewing along with a batch of other helpers, the event was a spectacular success.  After half an hour of good fellowship encouraged by live music, cocktails, delicious appetizers and desserts (catered by Food For Thought), David Dunne, our Emcee for the evening, led us through a celebration of the contributions of many of our amazing members as well as one member of the community whose actions have been consistent with Rotarian ideals.
