Noon: How We Rebuilt The Jackson Hole Rotary Club
This Wednesday RCFC welcomes Tony Paulus, the Past President (2018-2019) of the Jackson Hole Rotary Club, to speak to us via Zoom.  After years of slow decline, the Rotary Club of Jackson Hole was slowing down.  Tony led the revitalization of his club increasing membership from 124 to 150, among other improvements.  Bill Timpson will give us some background on Tony and his talk.

5:30 PM: Waleska Crowe - Community development in Guatemala and my life's journey
On June 2nd, during our evening meeting, Waleska Crowe will share her life’s journey as it interweaves with Rotary and community development in Guatemala. There are deep inequalities in Guatemala, with a long history of structural issues, racism, and social problems. Many indigenous people live in poverty or extreme poverty.  Waleska’s mother was indigenous Quiche Mayan and father was of European descent.  This unique background allows Waleska to bring tremendous wisdom and heart into her work with rural Guatemalan communities.

Seven New Rotarians Inducted into RCFC!
Wednesday, April 28, six new Rotarians were officially inducted into RCFC; the seventh, Mo Salman, was inducted May 5, completing the March/April new member Cohort.  Meet the seven new Rotarians:
 
Colin Campbell, an engineer who enjoyed a career in the High Tech, Medical and Aerospace industries, including Hewlett Packard.
 
Irene Josey, our current Larimer County Treasurer and Public Trustee, whose father is a Rotarian in Vermillion, SD.
 
Shana Martinez, an Audiologist with Oticon Medical, specializing in cochlear implant technology.  Shana was a Rotary Exchange Student to Canada!
 
Mary Ontiveros, grew up in Pueblo, graduated from CSU, and worked her way up to become the Vice President for Diversity Emeritus, of Colorado State University. 
 
Mo Salman, born in Iran, Doctor of Vet Medicine who has practiced in multiple countries and is now professor and researcher of Infectious Diseases in Animals at CSU.
 
Steve Schaffer, Doctor of Dentistry, who went to high school with Don Jorgensen in Lincoln Nebraska and graduated from the NU School of Dentistry.  
 
Juan Villaseñor, 8th District Court Judge, who immigrated to the US from Mexico at age 15, graduated from the Vanderbilt Law School, and is now enrolled in an on-line Master of Laws Degree from Duke University.

A Career in Fireworks! Is it possible? Is it a real job?
In a bang-up Zoom presentation on May 19, Larry and Ginger Darringrton of Angel Light Pyrotechnics, LLC, introduced us to the intricacies and joys of the pyrotechnic (read fireworks) business.  By way of introduction, Larry assured us that they are pyrotechnicians, not pyromaniacs.

President Del's Priorities and Plans
During his first meeting as President, Del Benson outlined his priorities and thoughts for RY 2020-21.  He touched on the challenges of declining noon membership and the resultant reduction in income and charitable pledges to support our service mission.  Del then outlined his priorities and a "U+2" Time, Talent and Treasure Challenge for every member:  
  • Bring in two new members
  • Double contributions to Rotary funding needs
  • Help on two funding initiatives
  • Give time to two additional service projects
  • Organize new projects and outcomes
  • Attend two more meetings every quarter
  • Combine categories engaging U+2 and have twice the fun and accomplishments

Urgent/Current Announcements: 
RCFC's Science and Engineering Fellowship meets immediately following this Wednesday's noon meeting (same Zoom link).   Ray Goodrich, Director of the Infectious Diseases Research Laboratory at CSU will give an update on the center, including some information about the on-going vaccine development efforts under way there.  All are welcome!  
 
The application of David Dunne has been approved by the Board of Directors.  David is an entrepreneur, sponsored by Eric Petersen, and is 20-year Rotarian transferring his membership from the Boeme Sunrise Rotary Club (near San Antonio, Texas) where he served as President 2020-21.  David was also President of the San Antonio Rotary at Dominion Club 2008-09.  
 
Bob Maroney is seeking Inspirational Moment presenters to provide the weekly noon "Inspirational Moment".  Please contact Bob or President Del Benson for details and to volunteer.

The annual Service Above Self Celebration originally scheduled for June 2, has been rescheduled for Tuesday evening, August 3, in the Children's Garden at the Gardens on Spring Creek.  Details to follow.   
 
President Del Benson announced a $10,000 donation to the RCFC Legacy Fund from David Everitt and the Everitt family, in support of the Good and Lucky Non-Event!  This brings the total raised to $70,000, plus a $19,000 matching grant for the United Way Fire Relief fund!  Total raised was $89,000!!  Thank you Rotarians for your generous support of our community.
 
Marty Bachman and Sally Lee report that just 35 families shopping at King Soopers earned $524.87 last quarter - just for shopping!  That's a $525 donation that goes directly into our charitable budget.  If you haven’t signed up yet, see Sally or Marty.
 
General reminder of our Fellowships schedule.  First Wednesday: Peace. Second Wednesday: History. Third Wednesday: Investments.  Fourth Wednesdays: Science.  All meet immediately following the Wednesday noon Zoom meeting, using the same login.
