On June 2nd, during our evening meeting, Waleska Crowe will share her life’s journey as it interweaves with Rotary and community development in Guatemala. There are deep inequalities in Guatemala, with a long history of structural issues, racism, and social problems. Many indigenous people live in poverty or extreme poverty.  Waleska’s mother was indigenous Quiche Mayan and father was of European descent.  This unique background allows Waleska to bring tremendous wisdom and heart into her work with rural Guatemalan communities.

Waleska Crowe is the Deputy Director of the Guatemala Office for Engineers Without Borders USA (EWB). She oversees new Projects Identification, Education, Monitoring and Evaluation and supports EWB strategy. She received her degree in Business Management with a focus in Community Based Tourism.

Waleska has been co-founder of one NGO and three social businesses that are operating in Guatemala. She has been involved in product development for rural markets. She and her team evaluate 150 solicitations each year. She is also a member of the Rotary Club Los Altos Quetzaltenango. Her passion is to connect with others and help those in need by acting as a bridge between different partners. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and contemplating the beautiful skies from Guatemala. If you are curious to know more about her story, attached is a recent episode of the Calculated Change Podcast with an interview with Waleska.
