CSU Women's Basketball
On Wednesday, 2 October 2024, CSU women’s basketball coach, Ryun Williams, will bring us up to speed on the Colorado State University women’s basketball team and the challenges in the upcoming season. The Colorado State women’s basketball has seen great success under the guidance and direction of Head Coach Ryun Williams, who enters his 12th season with the Rams and his 29th overall as a collegiate head coach in 2023-24. Under Williams’ guidance, the Colorado State women’s basketball team has compiled a 212-128 (.624) overall record, including seven seasons with 20-plus victories and five conference championships – most of any coach in program history. His 212 victories in the Green and Gold make him the only coach in program history to surpass 200 wins and one-of-two active head coaches in the Mountain West. READ MORE...
Last week our returning featured speaker (and RCFC member) Professor Bob Meroney did not (again) disappoint with his series of old and not so old images of shameless advertising in his talk entitled Old Ads: How did we survive? (After the talk I wondered if perhaps many Americans did not survive if they followed the advice of some of these ads). The full impact of this talk (the members laughed and sighed throughout) cannot be reproduced in these Rotogear words because a “picture is (still) worth a thousand words”. First up was an ad for Twitter (2006) to illustrate in the new millennia how rapidly a product can evolve and become a part of our (political) culture. From 1888 we see a photo of a sign that hung in the Hotel Coronado in CA about something “new” - the electric light! Edison was said to have installed this product himself in the Coronado! Many of the early ads reflected the values of our culture and politics at the time - sadly they used bigotry, racism and sexism to sell products or advance a political view. Many of them (we later learned) were promoting a product that was found to be really, really bad for your health. From old to newer the series of images reflects the evolution of American thought, social tolerance and the application of science to medicine (a 20th century innovation). READ MORE...
This Wednesday after the noon meeting, the Peace Builder Fellowship will meet to discuss The Traumas from Violence: PTSD and its impact on veterans and civilians with Sherry Gardner, Psy.D. Ms. Gardner says: Johnny C. was a 42-year-old United States Air Force Master Sergeant when I met him in 2009, after he had been air-evacuated with a diagnosis of acute post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), from the Bagram Airfield in Kandahar, Afghanistan, to his home base at the F. E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne WY. I worked as a clinical psychologist at the mental health clinic on the base. The near daily accounts of trauma on civilian populations in areas of combat, in particular, show the need for mental health assistance everywhere.

We love to support the Food Bank of Larimer County by volunteering. Did you know they also distribute other essential items in addition to food? This includes cleaning supplies, pet food, household essentials, diapers, and period products. Through 2021, The Nappie Project had distributed more than 1 million diapers, and since the Food Bank took over The Nappie Project’s operations in July of 2021, they have distributed more than 250,000 diapers to their clients.
