The Intersection of Agriculture and Brewing
This Wednesday, January 24th, at the RCFC luncheon meeting at noon at the Lincoln Center, our program features Dr Gary Hanning, retired Director of Global Barley Research for Anheuser-Busch InBev. Our speaker will discuss the intersection of agriculture, plant breeding and brewing. Malt barley research ties together the breeding process of malting barley with the agriculture and the brewing needs in a region. In general, the breeding targets derive from the agriculture, malting and brewing interest in a specific region. The research task is to improve the agronomic yields in comparison to wheat grown in that region and to either maintain or improve the brewing qualities of the grain. READ MORE...

The Board has approved Jonathan (Jonny) Norwine for membership. Jonny grew up in Illinois and moved to Colorado to study at Colorado College. Upon graduating with a Bachelor's Degree, he began working for a small startup as a software developer which was acquired by Seequent, a geoscience software company. He settled in Fort Collins where he had friends and family and has been active in the high school ministry at his church. He loves exploring local breweries and taco trucks and has a two-year-old rescue dog named Newton.
Please consider volunteering to be a greeter for our in-person lunch meetings during the first quarter of 2024 (January 3 through March 27). You could either select a specific Wednesday or identify a range of weeks when you could be available. Greeters rarely serve more than one time per quarter. For new members, this is a fun and efficient way to meet all of the other members of the club. There will be no meeting on January 31.
