The Troubles of These Times:  Three Reasons Why Historians Can Be Helpful, and Three Reasons Why They Are of No Help At All
This week’s guest speaker will be Boulder Rotarian Patty Limerick, 12:00 noon Wednesday via Zoom (link below).  Limerick will be introduced by Dave Stewart.  She is the Faculty Director and Chair of the Board of the Center of the American West at the University of Colorado where she is also a Professor of History.  In her adventures as an Applied Historian, Limerick has found many ways that thinking about history can provide useful guidance and, often enough, inspiration.

Community Grant's Second Arts and Culture Grants
The Community Grants committee recently awarded three Arts and Culture three grants for a total of $6,000.  Featured this week is the second of those grants.
KRFC, Public Radio for the Front Range was awarded $2,500 to support their “Live@Lunch” weekly music program.  Our grant will help to purchase essential equipment upgrades to accommodate larger musical acts and provide compatibility with the station’s new terrestrial radio tower.  Dan Mackey presented our check to Jen Parker, Executive Director.
Climate Change and Rotary's 4 Way Test
Member pictureContinuing our focus on Rotary and the Environment, last week Dave Stewart shared a presentation – Climate and the 4 Way Test.  Starting with climate science and the carbon cycle, Dave argued that we need to to view climate globally, not locally, and remember that climate is not the same as weather.  For the Zoom link, CLICK HERE.  To see Dave's slides, CLICK HERE.
President Del's Priorities and Plans
During his first meeting as President, Del Benson outlined his priorities and thoughts for RY 2020-21.  He touched on the challenges of declining noon membership and the resultant reduction in income and charitable pledges to support our service mission.  Del then outlined his priorities and a "U+2" Time, Talent and Treasure Challenge for every member:
  • Bring in two new members
  • Double contributions to Rotary funding needs
  • Help on two funding initiatives
  • Give time to two additional service projects
  • Organize new projects and outcomes
  • Attend two more meetings every quarter
  • Combine categories engaging U+2 and have twice the fun and accomplishments
