For this Wednesday's Noon meeting, Dr. Peter Brown will share the science of dendrochronology and the history of wildfire in Colorado’s front range as told by the scientific study of trees. Dr. Brown is Director and President of Rocky Mountain Tree-Ring Research, Inc. He will be introduced by President Del Benson.
The Community Grants committee recently awarded three Arts and Culture grants for a total of $6,000. Featured this week is the last of those grants.
Partnership for Age-Friendly Communities in Larimer County received a $2,500 grant to expand and develop their Sound Affects’ pilot program. The program offers access to quality music programs for underserved senior care communities. These are your RCFC Charitable contributions at work! On April 21, Dr. Patty Limerick, Professor of History and Chair of the Board of the Center for the American West at the University of Colorado, gave us a rapid-fire summary of why historians can be helpful in some ways, but in others they are no help at all in seeing our way through troubled times.
This project provided 175 latrines in the village of La Majada, San Jacinto, Guatemala. Health/hygiene training was also provided to the villagers. (Project pictures)
During his first meeting as President, Del Benson outlined his priorities and thoughts for RY 2020-21. He touched on the challenges of declining noon membership and the resultant reduction in income and charitable pledges to support our service mission. Del then outlined his priorities and a "U+2" Time, Talent and Treasure Challenge for every member:
Bring in two new members
Double contributions to Rotary funding needs
Help on two funding initiatives
Give time to two additional service projects
Organize new projects and outcomes
Attend two more meetings every quarter
Combine categories engaging U+2 and have twice the fun and accomplishments

Spring Highway Clean up is set for Saturday May 8, 2021. ALL RCFC members and guests are encouraged - many hands make quick work! Please let Ron Stoops or Troy Tafoya know if you will participate. As usual we will meet at the Sundance Saloon on Highway 14 about 7:45 am for coffee and donuts and start about 8:00 am.
The annual Service Above Self celebration originally scheduled for June 2, has been rescheduled for Tuesday evening, August 3, in the Children's Garden at the Gardens on Spring Creek. Details to follow.

The Community Grants committee is now accepting grant applications under the Youth Programs category. Details may be found on our Club website. Application deadline is Friday, May 21st, with grants awarded in June.
President Del Benson announced a $10,000 donation to the RCFC Legacy Fund from David Everitt and the Everitt family, in support of the Good and Lucky Non-Event! This brings the total raised to $70,000, plus a $19,000 matching grant for the United Way Fire Relief fund! Total raised was $89,000!!Thank you Rotarians for your generous support of our community.
Marty Bachman and Sally Lee report that just 35 families shopping at King Soopers earned $524.87 last quarter - just for shopping! That's a $525 donation that goes directly into our charitable budget. If you haven’t signed up yet, see Sally or Marty.
