On July 29th your Rotary Club has scheduled Dr. Bert Blocken to speak (via Zoom from the Netherlands) about the prediction of the transport of Covid-19 virus between individuals during running and bike racing events. Dr. Blocken of Eindhoven University has carried out wind tunnel measurements and computational fluid dynamics calculations of the transfer of mist and droplets downwind of running and biking participants.
Last week we listened to, and participated in, a program about the Drum Circle Foundation presented by Nancy Brauhn-Curnes. Although not a “music therapist” by her account, Nancy is a trainer of new members of the Drum Circle Facilitators Guild which is dedicated to arranging rhythm-based events to heal, empower and unite diverse populations.
Monday, July 6, RCFC President Del Benson hosted and moderated the first in a series of seminars on Community Civility. This session, titled Civil Behavior with Community and Police, heard from a panel consisting of Fort Collins Police Services Chief Jeff Swoboda, and CSU's Warner College Director of Diversity and Inclusion, Dr. Rickey Frierson. Noting this was the 4th in a series of charitable funding pleas IPG Chair Robin Steele highlighted the work done by the International Projects and Grants Committee including the funding process, the challenges, and the successes historically and the past few years. She closed with a plea for additional funding (including direct funding just to IPG), noting the decrease in IPG funding since 2013.
Wednesday July 1, 2020-21 President Del Benson outlined his background, priorities and thoughts for this coming year. He touched on the challenges of declining noon membership and the resultant reduction in income and charitable pledges to support our service mission. Del then outlined his priorities and a "U+2" Time, Talent and Treasure Challenge for every member:
Bring in two new members
Double contributions to Rotary funding needs
Help on two funding initiatives
Give time to two additional service projects
Organize new projects and outcomes
Attend two more meetings every quarter
Combine categories engaging U+2 and have twice the fun and accomplishments

Andy Kovacs has been approved for Membership by the Board of Directors and oriented by the Membership Committee. He is sponsored by Jean Lamm and will join the Evening fellowship. Andy is Deputy Fire Chief for the Brighton Fire & Rescue District and lives with his wife Caroline in the Masonville area. Their children are students in Fort Collins. Any objections to Andy's membership should be submitted in writing to the RCFC Secretary, Kathy Nicol, or Andy's sponsor no later than Wednesday, August 5.
The second in our Community Civility series, on Monday August 3, 9:30-11, President Del will host a Zoom seminar on “How Police and University Promote Civility.” Rickey Frierson (CSU) and Assistant Police Chief John Feyen offer specifics about ongoing civility training practices and new approaches because of racial tensions. Specifics have been distributed by email or contact Del or Stacy for the link.
President Del announced a 'one-stop' Finances email - treasurer@fortcollinsrotary.org. Del also reminded members that 'the buck stops here' and asked that any complaints or concerns also be directed to him.

President Del noted that the board's current focus is on Committees, gaining clarity and structure to achieve RCFC's goals. He reminded all that it is not necessary to be a formal member of a committee to make a contribution, and encouraged all to be engaged.

Stacy Plemmons announced that the Eastside Park project is progressing with lighting and soft surface paths installed. He again thanked Rotary for the $6000 Governor's grant, and the labor to remove the t-ball backstop.
Rotary logo facemasks have been distributed to all members. The project cost was underwritten by several board members.
Jim Harper visited the Rotary Club of Boquete in Panama, a small club with 15-20 members attending. Jim observed the Rotary Club’s first $5,000.00 food delivery to 120 needy families in the Boquete community and surrounding areas. The project is sponsored by generous people in the Boquete area.
RCFC's intended move to the First Presbyterian Church and face-to-face meetings are on hold due to a campus shut down.
Quarterly dues have increased by $8.00 (to $83), due to reduced membership and associated income, and increased expenses and corrections to expense calculations. Our unrestricted cash reserves are in the 5–7 months of expenses range, and the quarterly reserve charge will be reduced from $11 to $2 per member per quarter. Meals and Facilities charges will be announced when in-person meetings are ready to resume.
