Happy Holidays to All (Lunch meeting)

T’was the Wednesday before Christmas, and all through the hall, Rotarian Grandchildren were stirring, expecting a ball.

Bring your kids, grandkids, or someone else’s grandkids!   This Wednesday at lunch, December 21, we will enjoy our Holiday celebration courtesy of Dave Stewart and your Programs Committee.

The weather service is calling for Santa with oranges and candy canes for the youngsters.  As a special treat for kids from 1 to 102, we’ll have pizza for lunch along with salad, cookies and Christmas treats.

RECAP: From three blank legal pads to a $3 billion franchise
Last week, Fort Collins resident and international author (Lee Child aka, Jim Grant) joined us for what turned out to be a Q&A session at our noon meeting. The presentation was billed as From Three Blank Legal Pads to a $3 Billion Franchise – My Life with Reacher. Expressing his preference for this format our speaker began with the two questions he is most asked (at least when in the Fort)
  • “Why do you live in Fort Collins”? and
  • “When did you know you wanted to be writer”?

Announcements

Gary Hanning - New Member Approved!
The Board has approved for membership Gary Hanning. Gary states "I was born and raised on a farm in southern Indiana.  Obtained B.S. and M.S. at Murray State University in southwestern Kentucky and PhD from the University of Tennessee in Plant Breeding and Genetics.  Post Doc’ed at the University of Nebraska and then moved to Fort Collins in 1986 to work at CSU on a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) grant entitled ‘Tissue Culture for Crop’.  This international project was to use new technologies to develop environmental stress tolerance in several relevant international crops such as rice, sorghum, and millet.  As that grant ended in 1989, I was able to get a position with Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis working on rice and later barley.  I moved back to Fort Collins in 2007 to manage a global malt barley breeding program.  At its height there was staff of 60 in 10 countries and conducting research trials in 17 countries.  The program was also able to do experiments on the International Space Station.  I was divorced in 2014 and have 2 children, both of whom live in Fort Collins. I retired at the end of January 2020 and now spend a week or so a month in Indiana helping my dad." READ MORE...

Ronny Bush - New Member Approved!
The Board has approved for membership Ronny Bush. Ronny states "I liked reading and reciting the Four-Way Test of the Rotarian values. It’s refreshing to speak to the values each week. "

"I retired at the end of October of this year after nearly 43 years as a State Farm Insurance Agent. The best part of my years as an agent was the relationships developed with so many individuals.  I miss that even today."

"It might have appeared to my wife (Alli), my three sons (Blake, Jeff and Rob) and their wives, their 10 kids (my grandkids), their wives and 3 great grandkids that I have been retired for several years.  Not true. The heaviness of responsibility of owning a business never ceases.  I’m now retired and I can breath." READ MORE...
