What’s New in Weather Forecasting? (Lunch Meeting)
On Wednesday, January 17th, the RCFC luncheon meeting at the Lincoln Center features Dr. Mark DeMaria, a Senior Research Scientist in the Colorado State University Cooperative Institute for Research in Atmosphere (CIRA). He is the author of more than 100 articles on hurricanes, weather modeling, and satellite meteorology. After his introduction by Colin Campbell, our speaker will give a presentation on how the science of weather forecasting has improved over the past several decades. Most people get their weather information from TV broadcasters, phone apps and internet sites and are unaware that weather forecasts are based on complex computer programs. These programs integrate applied mathematics, physics, chemistry, and statistics to provide predictions out to several weeks in the future. Using hurricane forecasting as an example, Mark will describe the improvements in the field of computer weather modeling. READ MORE...

Since the inception of COTNI, local Rotaries both in the US and abroad, along with the International Rotary have helped to build educational facilities, clinics, clean water wells, and install solar equipment that has helped in the transformation of orphan and marginalized children and students in Sierra Leone, Malawi, Uganda, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. After evaluating alternative meeting locations, our search committee has committed to remaining at Sweetwater Brewery for the 1st half of this year at a minimum. Sweetwater has asked that we spend at least $100 per meeting to help them cover their costs. Please let the bartender know that you are with Rotary when you purchase food and beverages at the meeting so they can easily track our spending. Thanks!
Our Rotary Club of Fort Collins used funds donated from our members as well as prior Peach Festival proceeds to provide STEM Education Grants to Rocky Mountain and Fort Collins High Schools. FCHS Theatre program will purchase two Mutliverse Show Baby Transceivers, bridging DMX lighting instruments with the console, providing technical theater students the opportunity to begin coding in the DMX language of lighting software. This coding engages a variety of student learners in complex-level planning and problem solving while also heightening their creative approach to the art of theatrical lighting.
