President:
Marty Bachman

I hope you are doing well and enjoying the fabulous fall season.  The reason that you are reading this document is to determine why Marty Bachman should be the next President of the Rotary Club of Fort Collins.  First of all, I don’t want to turn the organization upside down. It has been a solid, productive organization for over 100 years. I would endeavor to facilitate club functions, and create an environment that is a fair and fun experience for all members involved. Club leaders must work hard, present solid ideas, lead others kindly, and possess organizational skills.  As the president, I would be responsible for the club and its actions.

Since becoming a Rotarian, I have been preparing for leadership through active participation.  I am a Legacy Foundation Trustee, Polio District Member, Teacher of the Month Member, RYLA & YRYLA Selection Member, and Recognition & Caring Member.  Also, an active participant in community service for Highway Cleanup, Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, Boys & Girls Club, Peach Festival, 4-way test at Colorado State University, the co-chair of the District Conference in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and attended the District Assembly in Wyoming.  As a member of the Board of Directors since 2019, I have learned so much about the Rotary Foundation and how important the many grants are each year that are provided.

Growing up in Fort Collins provided many opportunities for me such as traveling with my 8th grade class to Mexico City, Mexico to practice our language skills, a bus trip to Calgary, Canada with the band in 10th grade to play in the Honor Parade, and singing with a statewide choir in four European Countries.  All expenses were paid for these trips with fundraisers like selling oranges and grapefruit.  Poudre School District also encouraged me to apply for scholarships so that I could attend college and ended up getting a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Northern Colorado, a Master's Degree from the University of Colorado and a Doctorate from Colorado State University.

Since becoming a Registered Nurse in 1980, I have worked in the Hospital, Clinic and Academic settings.  Many of these positions led to leadership roles including being the State of Colorado Nursing Director President for two years, Faculty Senate President, Center for Teaching Excellence Chair as well as leading the Nursing Department at Front Range Community College for 12 years.  Many challenges come up in the Healthcare field as well as Higher Education.  I feel that the experiences that I have had in working with people and in various situations will contribute to being a leader in Rotary that will benefit our club.

I have been married to Kurt for 41 years and we have three sons who are all married.  The really exciting news is that we have three grandsons, two granddaughters and are expecting a grandson in April.  Yes, I have pictures, even an ultra sound of the one in Mom’s tummy!

Let's move the needle in unique ways with Rotary.

President elect:
Randall (Randy) Kurtz
Randy joined the Fort Collins Rotary Club in 2008 after meeting John Roberts.  He has served on the Board of Directors and numerous committees.  He has lead the Scouts Merit Badge University project for many years.  Randy and his wife Nancy have hosted several Rotary Exchange Students.

The Rotary Exchange program is Randy’s original connection with Rotary.  He was an exchange student, sponsored by the Greeley club where his father was a member, to the Kirchdorf, Austria club.  It was a great year of learning the language, skiing, travel and growing up.  It has lead to life long friendships, including hosting the grandson of one of his exchange parents in a private high school exchange.

Randy grew up in Northern Colorado; Greeley and Eaton.  Randy has been married to Nancy for 38 years.  They met at the University of Colorado.  After graduation from CU, an early job opportunity moved them to the Seattle area. After 10 years in the Seattle area, Randy and Nancy moved to Fort Collins in 1996. Randy and Nancy have three grown children, Kelsey, Erin, and Brad.  Kelsey gave them twin Grandsons back in January of this year.  All three kids have traveled and lived in interesting places.  It has made them appreciate what a great community Fort Collins is.

Randy has had a career in corporate sales, focused on professional development programs.  Currently he is employed by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).  A non-profit professional association for finance and accountant professionals working within companies and organizations.

Randy believes the strength and beauty of the Rotary Club of Fort Collins is that if a member is passionate about an idea, project, issue.  They can find a team within the club to tackle that project.  It just takes someone with some passion to take the lead!

Randy looks forward to working with past leaders and members to develop a focused mission for his year as president and create more value for our community and our members.

Secretary:
Sandra Munger
I have been in Rotary for over 15 years.  My clubs have been the Canyon Rotary Club, Texas and this one.  I have been President, newsletter editor, on the scholarship and RYLA committees, leader on the clean the highway project and participated in several community service projects including the dictionary project.  I’m currently working to organize the stuff the Rotary Club of Fort Collins has accumulated over the years.  I am a member because I was asked and I liked the focus on fellowship and community good.  Whether we like it or not, the world is our community now.  With the explosion of communication media, it no longer takes months for information to come to you in a small paragraph in the local paper.  It’s in your face.

I am also a long time member of the American Association of University Women and have held several jobs with them.

I was born in Iowa and have spent most of my life in Colorado.  I have also lived in Oregon, California, Texas and Wyoming.  I have a BA in history (American) and a MLS in library science.  I have worked in personnel (slaughter house), accounting (housing authority), insurance claims and in libraries.  My first library job was in 8th grade as my school offered a class working in the library.  I worked in the Sterling Public Library as a teenager and Texas Woman’s University as a college student.  I have been library director at the Big Horn County Library in Wyoming and at Canyon Area Library in Texas.

I read a great deal and do crafty things.  I probably have over 5,000 books in my place and am using my retirement to catch up on getting them all read.  When I retired, I came back to Colorado.  I actually lived in Fort Collins in 1955-57 when my father was getting his bachelor’s degree in science.  My parents retired here and one of my sisters and her husband moved here, so here is where I came.  I also have a sister in Longmont and a brother over the hill in Olathe.  My other brother is in transition.  He’s building a house near Las Vegas NM and between weather and COVID it’s been taking a lot longer.  I also have multiple cousins in the area and 1 of my 2 remaining aunts.

I like to travel but COVID has put a halt to that.  I used to camp and white water raft but my knees are too creaky to happily get up off the ground anymore.  I’ve got 2 possible trips in planning – a traditional road trip in Texas and a trip back to Venice. The Texas trip has been an annual trip with a friend and we hit familiar places around the state.  The Venice trip is with a cousin.

I am willing to serve as secretary for the upcoming year.  It will be a new job for me but with Kathy’s help, I can do it.

Treasurer:
Steve Kane
Steve has been a member of the RCFC for almost 5 years. He is a current member of the Evening Group. He has served on several committees. He has been Chair of the Evening Group and has served the past year as RCFC Treasurer. Steve owns and operates his own business, Steve Kane’s Sales & Consulting. His daughter Hannah Kane works as a sales person and his wife, Phyllis Kane is the bookkeeper. Steve and his wife Phyllis have been residents of Ft. Collins since 1990. He enjoys working at Winter Park on the weekends in both the winter and summer seasons. He looks forward to serving as RCFC treasurer in 2021-2022.

Board of Directors: You vote for two positions

Susan Brand
I joined Rotary Club of Fort Collins on August 1, 2018, and have been serving on the Board for the past year to fill the slot that came open when Marty Bachman became President-Elect. My role on the Board has been as the Liaison for the Membership Committee, Fellowship Committee, and Special Interests Committees. I serve on the Community Grants Committee. It’s been a most enjoyable and productive learning curve.

I became aware of RCFC and Rotary International back in 2015 through our friends Jim Collinson and John Roberts. Thinking that Rotary was an organization only for men, I encouraged my husband, Harry Mueller, to join RCFC. But the more I found out about Rotary, the more I wanted to join RCFC as a member on my own, so I did just that. I’ve been a greeter, served beer at two Peach Festivals, participated in Mulberry Avenue clean-ups, and distributed food at our local Food Bank. Every volunteer experience has been a privilege.

I joined RCFC for four reasons: 1. Learn more about our Community and the services available to residents 2. Work with RCFC to support new and existing Community services 3. Participate in Rotary International projects 4. Make new friends Fort Collins is an extraordinary community, filled with exceptional people. I know I am very lucky to live here. I hope, by serving on the RCFC Board for a full three-year term, to bring new ideas of how to be of service to our club members, our Community, and Rotary International.

Background: My husband, Harry, and I moved to Fort Collins in 2008. We moved here after I completed ten years as a Nurse Manager of the Renal (Kidney) Health/Dialysis/Transplant Unit at the Saudi Aramco Oil Company hospital in Saudi Arabia. Prior to my time in the Middle East, I did twelve years in the Army Nurse Corps, working as an intensive care and kidney dialysis nurse at various locations in the U.S., Europe, and Central America. Earlier in my nursing career, I worked full-time in newborn intensive care units, and earned a Masters degree in High Risk Perinatal Nursing from Indiana University-Indianapolis. I hold a Bachelors degree in Nursing from the University of Missouri-Columbia. I was raised in Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri, on small farms and in small rural towns. My rural experiences taught me much about the importance of agriculture. My 45+ years of healthcare service have given me a unique perspective on how we can better support our Community’s health needs and challenges.

David Dunne
Thank you Rotary Club of Fort Collins for welcoming me into your club. I have had the pleasure of participating in numerous activities that the club is involved in and have enjoyed meeting so many of our members. I look forward to building relationships with members of the club at regular meetings, service projects and social events.

I am honored that the nominating committee believes I can complement the leadership team and continue to build upon the momentum that our club currently has. I believe in Rotary because I have been a participant and witness to the way that our organization changes lives. One meaningful project I was involved in while president of the San Antonio Dominion Club, was a collaboration with the Wheelchair Foundation, several Rotary Clubs and the Rotary Foundation to deliver mobility to those without in Monterrey, Mexico. It was a Rotary moment for all involved and influenced my wife Lisa to eventually become a Rotarian. It was beautiful to see the smile on a woman whose family carried her in and she was able to walk behind her new wheelchair when leaving the building. Rotary’s growth and involvement in our community and world improves the lives of all that we touch.

I intend to continually increase my commitment to Rotary International and our club specifically. I have been a Rotarian for over 20 years and have the experience of being a club president of two different Rotary Clubs. I have served in strategic planning at the district level and am a Paul Harris fellow. I was introduced to Rotary by attending RYLA while I was in high school. My wife, Lisa is also a Rotarian and Paul Harris fellow. We hosted a Rotary Exchange Student from Germany for a full year. While we were hosting, our daughter, Kiera, was an outbound youth exchange student. Kiera was an officer of her Interact Club and was highly involved in providing service to our local community. My son, Curran, led the district membership in reciting the four-way test at a conference while he was in early act in grade school. I graduated from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas with a BBA.

I have been visiting Fort Collins for 10 years and have recently become a resident. Professionally, I was involved in finance and management at several sizable companies before becoming a full-time entrepreneur. I founded and sold a service business. Recently, I acquired, turned around and sold a manufacturing business. I continue to own a minority stake in the manufacturing firm and am responsible for guiding the leadership team.

Thank you for taking the time to consider the slate of candidates. All nominees believe that their commitment of time and energy to the club are beneficial to all concerned. If elected to the board of directors, I will do my best to use my experience and enthusiasm for the benefit of our club.

Allan Kirkpatrick
I have been a member of the FC Rotary Club since 1990. My Rotary activities have included the finance committee, program committee, community grants committee, and world service committee. For example, I obtained funding for and managed a successful Rotary grant project in the Philippines. This project involved partnering with the Rotary Club of Kalibo on a training project to recycle coconut husks into erosion preventing nets.

I have been on the board of the non-profit organization ‘Seminars at Steamboat’ since 2012, and presently serve as treasurer, managing a $100,000 yearly budget. This non-partisan organization brings in nationally recognized speakers to Steamboat Springs in the summer months for discussions about public policy issues. The seminars are free to the public, and are supported by donations from supporters.

I retired from Colorado State University in May 2021 after 40 great years in the mechanical engineering department as a professor and department head. Currently, I am active on the Rotary book fellowship committee, and would like to increase my Rotary service activities. My interests as a potential board member would be in the areas of finance, programs, community grants, and world service.
