Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at CSU
On Wednesday, 8 January 2025, our Club will welcome Meredith Naughton, director of the CSU Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). As a unit in the CSU Office of Engagement and Extension, OLLI is a member-driven community of lifelong learners ages 50 and better.  OLLI at CSU became a part of a nationwide network of 125 similar institutes in 2006 with a million-dollar endowment from the Bernard Osher Foundation.  Today, OLLI is a rapidly growing community where 1000+ members engage socially and intellectually and “learn for the fun of it.”  Approaching its 20th year serving Fort Collins with over 150 courses, lectures, and experiences each semester, OLLI at CSU is constantly innovating to expand learning opportunities and access to creative programming for curious minds near and far.  Several of our Club members are teaching or have taught Olli classes.  OLLI is expanding learning and engagement opportunities for adults across Colorado and the nation; there are OLLI programs at universities and colleges in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Meredith Naughton has been the director of the CSU Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) since September of 2022. Previously, she worked as an assistant professor of Human Development and Family Studies at CSU and as the executive director of College Pathways and Educational Engagement at the University of Missouri. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Truman State University, a master’s degree in education from Stanford University, and a PhD in learning, teaching, and curriculum from the University of Missouri.

ARX Security Consulting (Evening Meeting)
Did you find yourself in a confrontation with anyone during the holiday season? Our sincerest hope is that you did not, but these scenarios do come up from time to time. Equipping others to handle serious confrontations, where one’s very safety can be on the line, Chad Olms is the owner and lead consultant for Arx Security Consulting, a Northern Colorado based firm. With 25 years of experience working for five different federal law enforcement, intelligence, and security agencies, Mr. Olms will be joining the Evening Group and give us all a sample of one of his courses. Specifically, he will teach us some of the basics on how to identify and position oneself around different hostile individuals and describe some of the techniques we can use to deescalate verbal confrontations. Don’t miss it!

Peacebuilding/History and Current Events Fellowship
The Peacebuilding and History and Current Events Fellowships will meet jointly after the noon meeting on January 8 to discuss the environment. We will address a brief US history, current events to shape future policy and uses, and find ways to make peace with our place.
