Update from Homeward Alliance (Evening, Oct. 19th)
For our October 19th evening meeting at SweetWater Brewing, we welcome David Rout, the Executive Director of Homeward Alliance. David holds a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from Colorado State University. He joined Homeward Alliance (then called Homeless Gear) in 2012 and became the Executive Director in 2014. Since taking the helm, he has shepherded the organization from a staff of one focused on distribution of gear to a team of 46 employees and 1,000+ volunteers who provide a continuum of servicers to over 5,000 adults and children annually. He has participated in multiple task forces and boards that have helped shape our local and regional homeless response systems, including the City of Fort Collins’ Homeless Advisory Committee, Homeward 2020 and Outreach Fort Collins.
Last week, CSU interim president, Dr Mike Miranda shared an informal State of the University Address. Although the campus consists of buildings, staff, and students; much of its strength comes from its supporters – notably the Fort Collins community and organizations like RCFC. The long-term faculty also deserves kudos - Dr Miranda has been a member for 40.12 years!
The investement fellowship will not meet this week while on zoom. See you next month in person!
Announcements
John Runkles
The Board has approved the application for membership of John Runkles. John states "I came to Fort Collins to study Microbiology in 2000, fell in love with the community, and never left. I am married to my wife, Tasha, and we have four small children. My brother and I started our own real estate brokerage a few years ago: Urban Forest Realty. I enjoy trail running and mountain biking. We could not be happier living in Fort Collins."
"I would like to be a Rotarian to become more of a part of the fabric of Fort Collins. I think that the Four-Way Test question should be applied to all decisions, Rotarian or otherwise."
Rotary is preparing for its Veterans Day-themed program on 16 November. We will honor Veterans by displaying their information during the 11:30-noon social time. If you are a military Veteran, the Club would like to recognize your service! Your extended family member's (parents, children, grandchildren) service is welcome, too!" Please contact Jan Bertholf or Kip Turain.
