This Wednesday, October 11th, at the RCFC noon meeting at the Lincoln Center, the club hears from Judy Boggs, Irene Josey and Ruth Lutes on what is going on in Rotary’s efforts to end polio in the world. We will also hear from Larry Salmen on how we all fit in with the Rotary Foundation's mission.
Judy’s message is that…”Eradicating Polio isn't easy, but making history never is. Every year on October 24th we observe World Polio Day to raise awareness of the importance of Polio vaccinations to protect every child from this devastating disease and to celebrate the many parents, professionals, and volunteers whose contributions make Polio eradication achievable. This will be our update. The PolioPlus Society will be discussed and Members will be recognized for their efforts in supporting Polio eradication.
Last week RCFC member (and frequent presenter) Bob Meroney shared Famous Mistakes (And Some Not-so-famous Mistakes). Starting with “prehistory” - did Adam and Eve eat an apple? For Wednesday, October 11th, following the lunch meeting at the Lincoln Center, we will discuss Oppenheimer, the bomb, the man, the movie, ethical dilemmas, the role of atoms to end all wars, or how nuclear energy could end civilization as we know it. Please come to the Fellowship informed by your popcorn perspectives from the popular movie currently in theaters. The Internet has many videos and copy about Oppenheimer, the Manhattan Project, and atomic bombs. Or, just bring your explosive thoughts that we will ponder. The biggest issue in current events perhaps is whether similar bombs will be used again in conflicts around the world. What might Russia or North Korea have in mind? Invite your movie night partner and local experts to the meeting. All thoughts are welcome.
This season, we had two teams playing in the beginner cornhole league at the Lyric. The end of season tournament was Tuesday with Rotary Team #1 taking home second place. It was great to see various family members and friends out during the season enjoying some great fellowship and a little competition. See you next year! (Some pictures from this year at this link)
