For a light-hearted final in-person meeting of 2023, we had a Christmas-themed interactive session featuring Bill Moellenhoff and a visit from Santa. First, Bill led us in a lively singalong of the Christmas carols “We Three Kings”, “The First Noel”, and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”. This was followed by a visit from Santa who entered “playing” a drum (he later admitted that the best Christmas present might be a broken drum). Once he put the drum aside, he pulled out a sack of presents and started eliciting Christmas wishes and Christmas memories from some of the attendees. Probably the most informative of the memories was from Inge, our Rotary Exchange Student from Finland, who talked about some of the activities that she and her family engage in for Christmas at their home. Once Santa had elicited all of the responses that seemed available and had given away most of the oranges and candy canes in his sack, he grabbed his drum, wished us all a Merry Christmas, and “laying a finger aside of his nose and giving a nod, up the chimney he rose”.
