RECAP: Gravity Defying Homes and Architectural Oddities
Last week our very own polymath, Bob Meroney, provided a pictorial journey entitled Gravity Defying Homes and Architectural Oddities. I will try to summarize in words but “you had to be there” to fully enjoy this trip.
The “Gravity Defying” portion started with 2 inflatables - Disney’s massive floating Cinderella castle and the “Flying Cathedral” designed as a replica of the Abbey of St Gail in Switzerland. But helium isn’t required for a building to appear floating as the photo of a mysterious levitating farmhouse in Ukraine exemplified. Another example is the “pod house” in New Rochelle, NY that appears suspended in air as it sits on thin concrete stems. A polish architect has designed an “unstable” upside-down house as a political statement on Poland’s communist party years. Other upside-down structures are variously used as entertainment venues or tourist attractions both in the US and overseas. READ MORE...
Northern Colorado Hockey Update (April 5th, Lunch)
On Wednesday, April 5th, the luncheon meeting of Rotary at the Lincoln Center features Ryan Bach. Following his introduction by Randy Kurtz, Ryan will fill us in on the history and prospects of the Colorado Eagles hockey team. Ryan, the inaugural season goaltender for the team, has been a member of the Eagles hockey operations staff as goaltending coach since 2005. He helped guide the organization to a President’s Cup championship title in the CHL, as well as back-to-back ECHL Kelly Cup Championships in 2017 and 2018. His duties were expanded heading into the 2007-08 season when he was named assistant coach and served as interim head coach. In addition, the 48-year-old also spent nine seasons providing color commentary during Colorado Eagles radio broadcasts. READ MORE...

Benjamin grew up in Gun Barrel Colorado. As a child he would catch honeybees off the cherry tree in his front yard and eat the pollen off their legs. READ MORE...
