State of the University Address (Lunch)
This coming Wednesday, Rotary welcomes Colorado State University’s interim president, Dr. Rick Miranda. Following his introduction by Kirvin Knox, Dr. Miranda will provide a state of the university address. This will update the challenges to the university and how he will be guiding the university until a new president is appointed. This meeting, at noon on October 12th, will be at the Lincoln Center, and continues a long tradition of hosting the CSU leader. Members are encouraged to invite guests to hear our speaker. For our first meeting during Polio Awareness Month, fellow Rotarian Dr. Robert Tello brought us up to date on the history and current status of our understanding of the polio virus and the ongoing effort, led by Rotary, to eradicate polio. Update from Homeward Alliance (Evening, Oct. 19th)
For our October 19th evening meeting at SweetWater Brewing, we welcome David Rout, the Executive Director of Homeward Alliance. David holds a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from Colorado State University. He joined Homeward Alliance (then called Homeless Gear) in 2012 and became the Executive Director in 2014. Since taking the helm, he has shepherded the organization from a staff of one focused on distribution of gear to a team of 46 employees and 1,000+ volunteers who provide a continuum of servicers to over 5,000 adults and children annually. He has participated in multiple task forces and boards that have helped shape our local and regional homeless response systems, including the City of Fort Collins’ Homeless Advisory Committee, Homeward 2020 and Outreach Fort Collins.
The History Fellowship will meet shortly after the regular lunch meeting. Our topic this week will be: 'Unresolved Issues about World War II.' We all have connections to and opinions about that epic war. All opinions and viewpoints are welcome and will be heard in a wide-ranging discussion.
