Christina Cooper - Imagination Library (Evening Meeting)
Wednesday, August 16th, the Evening Group features Christina Cooper, an officer of the United Way of Larimer County. Following our speaker’s introduction by Kevin Davie, she will relate how, in July 2022, United Way of Larimer County …”launched an exciting new partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, making high-quality, age-appropriate books accessible to every child age 0-5 in Larimer County”. This program distributes free books to children every month until their 5th birthday, specially addressed to them in the mail at no cost to families. The cost of the program is approximately $30 per child, per year. United Way is fortunate to work alongside its state-level partner, Imagination Library of Colorado, who covers 50% of program costs for each affiliate across the state, making United Way’s cost approximately $15 per child, per year. Since launching the Imagination Library program, current enrollment is about 4800 children, largely in Fort Collins.
Last Wednesday, RCFC member and CSU Professor Emeritus, Henry Weisser helped us understand the current war in Ukraine with his talk entitled Highlights from the History of Russia and Ukraine. In classic Henry style the talk was presented with engaging slides including evolving maps of the region illustrating how the 2 countries have been entangled from the 16th century to the present day. The many portraits started with Winston Churchill – (Russia is “a riddle, wrapped up in a mystery, inside an enigma”) and ended with Putin. Others featured were Lenin, Stalin, Khrushchev, and Gorbachev. READ MORE...

"Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves." Rotary Vision Statement
Giving appreciated, publicly-traded stock to charitable organizations is a highly effective tax strategy in any economy. Donors can avoid capital gains tax when they transfer long-term, marketable securities to a fund such as Rotary Club of Fort Collins Charities, or other public charity.
The donor is typically eligible for an income tax deduction at the fair market value of the securities, and when the charity sells the securities, neither it nor its donor will have to pay capital gains tax. This is a win-win for the person making the gift and the charity.
Our Legacy Endowment Fund is currently held at the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado. They can accept many types of complicated gifts, please email legacy@rotarycluboffortcollins.org to learn more.
Our community grants committee recently awarded a $3,000 youth program grant to the Food Bank for Larimer County to purchase snack items for their mobile food truck. As part of this grant award, we were able to volunteer by helping to provide meals and snacks at recent locations for the Food Bank’s mobile food truck. Thanks Rotarians for making a difference in our community!
