Sizing Up Economic Inequality
This Wednesday, August 24 at noon, CSU Associate Professor Anders Fremstad will speak to Rotary at the Lincoln Center. Bob Meroney will introduce our guest, who is a member of the Economics Department at the university. Dr. Fremstad notes that…”Economic inequality has grown in the United States over the last fifty years. This rise in inequality may have inefficient and unfair causes (like a concentration of wealth or reduced competition between firms), but it could also have efficient and/or fair causes (like technological change or a divergence in workers’ productivities)”. He will provide an overview of multiple forms of inequality, with an emphasis on which inequalities reward hard work or risk-taking and which simply reflect good luck. Together, our speaker and the club members can address the “optimal” level of inequality and discuss a range of policies that could help us achieve it. READ MORE...
