Saving Amache: The Community Effort to Preserve a Bitter History
This Wednesday July 17, KUNC Reporter/Host Emma VandenEinde will highlight her reporting on the efforts to save the historical Amache Japanese-American Interment camp. According to the National Park Service, “The smallest incarceration site by population—the Granada Relocation Center” (known by incarcerees as Camp Amache), “was in Colorado, only 15 miles west of the Kansas border and less than 2 miles from the town of Granada. Built to accommodate up to 8,000 people, Amache housed 7,318 incarcerees at its peak in 1943, making it the 10th largest city in Colorado at that time. During its three years of operation, 10,331 incarcerees passed through Amache.” Amache was one of 10 Internment Camps across the west. Emma VandenEinde is a reporter and host for KUNC and was formerly a reporter for the Mountain West News Bureau, a regional reporting collaboration between 14 different NPR-affiliate stations across the West. Her work has been featured on popular NPR programs such as Here and Now, Science Friday, The World and more. READ MORE...

Non-cash gifts are more important than cash and may include assets (e.g. stocks, real estate), split-income gifts (e.g. annuities, charitable remainder trusts), estate gifts, beneficiary designations, and bequests. Planned giving often doesn’t get done for a variety of reasons (talking about wealth is sensitive, death even more so, immediate cash gifts are usually given priority, and the impression that “it’s complex”).
