This Wednesday, Megan Lundstrom, Executive Director of Free Our Girls, will bring her personal account of the human trafficking crisis in America. Stacy Plemmons will make the introduction. A northern Colorado native, Megan Lundstrom was first groomed and recruited by a sex trafficker at the age of 23, as a young, newly-divorced single mother. She had run out of options to support herself and her children after escaping an abusive marriage. Over the next 5 years, Megan would be trafficked across the United States before she found her freedom and began her journey to healing.
Harry Mueller presented a check for $780 for the STEM project, The Quarter Project. Receiving the check were Courtney Gonzales and Leslie Patterson. The funds will be used to support classes at the Boys and Girls club for elementary girls (GEMS), middle school girls (GSAS), and high school girls (STEM FEMMES).
John Vogt introduced Jason Tyler from Fort Collins High School who then extolled Anna Hunter, Student of the Month for October. Anna is stage director for the upcoming “Les Miserables”. She summarized how theater helped her personal growth since her freshman year. She will attend college in Dayton, Ohio, majoring in theater and German.
Last week, our resourceful president, Dr. Rob Marschke, filled in at the “last minute” when our scheduled speaker had to cancel. Rob’s talk was on the history of the treatment of cancer – starting with the first illustrations of cancer in Egypt dating to 2500 BC. Likewise, the first treatment of breast cancer (cauterization) was depicted in early Egypt paintings (1600 BC.).
The membership applications of Gloria D Gleave and Milton (Milt) Garrett have been approved by the RCFC Board of Directors. Gloria is a retired former teacher (CSU), travels internationally extensively and is sponsored by Glen Schmidt and Robin Steele. She will join the Evening group. Milt Garrett, EdD, is the principal of Garrett Group International in Fort Collins and is sponsored by Stacy Plemmons, Bob Lawrence and Bill Timpson. He will join the Noon fellowship after returning from his latest travels.
Any comments regarding either Gloria or Milt as new members should be directed to the club secretary, Cindy DeGroot, or to their individual sponsors in writing by November 6, 2019, one week after this notification appears in the October 30, print Rotogear.
