UCHealth, the Hospital Industry, and Covid-19
Kevin Unger, President and Chief Executive Officer of UC Health Northern Colorado, will speak this Wednesday during RCFC's noon Zoom meeting.  After introduction by Rob Marschke, Kevin will update members on steps UC Health has taken in response to the COVID-19 outbreak in our area.  In addition to his comments, Kevin will run a video highlighting the people and programs at the local facilities who have been key to this response.

Yearly Charities "Ask" Launched
In launching RCFC's annual request for Charitable contributions, Robin Steele presented The Rotary Foundation's work, how it is funded, and how the funds are used for Global and District Matching Grants, multiplying the value of RCFC's IPG grants, and occasionally District Matched community grants.  Additional presentations from RCFC's Community Grants, Scholarships, Legacy Fund and other charitable committees will follow over the next few weeks.  
Virtual District Conference Announced

Please join District Governor Chris Woodruff for what promises to be the shortest District Conference ever!  This year celebrate the 2019-2020 District 5440 Rotary year via ZOOM, June 13, 2020 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM.  

The conference will feature Johrita Solari, our RI Director and George McGraw, the Executive Director of Dig Deep, our Navajo Water project, as guest speakers.   District awards will be presented and the traditional Rose Ceremony will be held virtually.  Please register and receive the Zoom invitation via an email sent by Kellie Kegerreis.

Loneliness and Solitude in Later Adulthood: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
May 20, during our pandemic-enforced isolation, Dr. Gloria Luong, a research psychologist in emotional health at CSU, talked about the difference between solitude and loneliness, the characteristics of loneliness, and the good and bad aspects of both solitude and loneliness, including what it means to be socially isolated and still maintain contact.  She specifically mentioned an AARP Magazine article (https://www.aarp.org/home-family/friends-family/info-2019/medical-cure-for-loneliness.html) and congratulated RCFC for using ZOOM to maintain social contact.

April BoD Meeting Report: $10,000 Donation
President Rob Marschke reports that the board made several announcements and decision at the April meeting.
  • An anonymous RCFC member made a $10,000 donation to the First Presbyterian Church to help pay for the projector and lens upgrades needed.  This will smooth the way for RCFC to move to FPC by reducing significantly the funding needed to upgrade the projection system.  Thank you, Anonymous!!
  • The Board of Directors approved 1) new By-Laws drafted by John Trone, Robin Steele, Del Benson, Rob Marschke and Phyllis Abt, and 2) a new Constitution, recommended by Rotary International.
  • Del Benson announced that Bill Timpson will be the new Rotarian leader of the Rotaract Membership.
  • Marty Bachman announced that although RYLA and Young RYLA summer camps are canceled this year, graduating seniors enrolled this year will be eligible to enroll again next year.

Urgent/Current Announcements:
President Rob announced that RCFC is recruiting a treasurer, additional members of the Finance Committee and a paid, part-time bookkeeper.  Contact President Rob or PE Del Benson for details.  
 
RCFC's Board of Directors Zoom meeting is next Thursday, May 28 at 3:30.  Contact President Rob for details.

Dick Dunn, a member of our club for 37 years, passed away from heart failure on Wednesday, May 20.   Allnutt is handling funeral arrangements.  He was a friend to all and will be greatly missed.  
 
Older Announcements Still Relevant:
Fourth quarter invoices for the Operations (Club) Budget have been distributed, anticipating no meals or facilities for the quarter.  Members are encouraged to consider donating cost savings to our RCFC Charities.
Fourth Quarter invoices for Charities will go out at the end of May or in early June. 
 
RY 2020-21 "Ask" (Financial Commitment)" forms are planned for around June 1, and will be due back immediately.  
 
Wednesday Noon member who wish to switch from “With Meals” to “Without Meals” need to submit (only once) a signed, written request form available from the Membership Committee or downloaded from our ClubRunner website.
 
Mara Johnson announced that the Rotary exchange program has been cancelled for the 2020-21 school year.  RCFC outbound student Natalie may still be able to spend the 2021-22 school year in Germany.  
 
Annette Geiselman announced that the Blood Bank is looking for anyone who has experienced and recovered from the Covid19 virus.  Contact the Blood Center.
 
The Rotary Read Book Group's next meeting is June 11, discussing Grant by Ron Chernow.  If you are interested in attending please read the book Grant and contact Dave Stewart.  
 
The RYLA Board has decided to postpone the 2020 RYLA, Young RYLA, and RYLA Plus conferences until 2021.  
 
Kathy Hawkins announced we now have a credit card charge device.  Member charges and contributions can now be handled at our weekly meetings.
 
Sally Lee reported King Soopers rebate of $532.00 that goes directly into our charitable budget.  If you haven’t signed up yet, see Sally.
Marty Bachman urged members to shop on Amazon Smile.  Rebates would be credited to our club at the rate of 0.5%.  Look for the Amazon logo on our website.
 
Marty Bachman requests fun fundraising ideas.  She also needs volunteers for her committee.
 
SPECIAL NOTE:  Kathy Hawkins cautioned members not to pay dues AND charities with a single checks.  For charities contributions to be tax-deductible, you must write a separate check.
 
PDG Mike Forney invited retired professionals to join SCORE (Senior Corps Of Retired Executives).  Volunteers work with small business personnel to enhance their business.  Counselors are needed in Ft. Collins.  If interested, contact Mike Forney.
