This Wednesday, our speaker is David Ames, a Rotarian who has been involved in Division 1 NCAA football for over 3 decades as a football official. Today’s program will highlight a typical game day and include video to demonstrate what happens on some typical football plays. The program should be of interest to the avid fan as well as to Rotarians who may not follow college sports. As a CSU Department Head, his typical answer to the question of “WHY officiate college football?”, would be “It is sure nice to forget the duties of my day job for a few hours on Saturday”. When David retired from on field officiating in 2005 he was asked to consider a new gig called instant replay that began in 2006 when the NCAA wrote rules for instant replay. This added years to his involvement with football; a game that he still loves. |
