Leadership Wins and Losses
This Wednesday, August 7, CSU Volleyball Head Coach Emily Kohan will reflect on her first year transition into the head coaching role, and how lessons learned will impact the plan for year 2. Most of the team is planning to join us, so you won’t want to miss it! Emily Kohan enters her second season as leader of the Rams after being named the sixth Head Coach of the CSU Volleyball program in December of 2022. Kohan led the Rams to a 19-11 record and Mountain West Championship game appearance in her first season as head coach. She was previously the Rams Assistant Head Coach since 2015. She also kicked off her career as a head coach with a season-opening win over No. 10 Kentucky in the Rams annual White Out game last season. Kohan was born and raised in southeastern Colorado, graduating from Swink High School. Before the Rams, Kohan was a former standout libero for Iowa and is married to Patrick Kohan. Together they have two daughters, Evie (3 years) and Sully (9 months).
For the fifth Friday in July, our normal noon lunch meeting was replaced by an early evening social event at Avogadro's Number. The weather was remarkably cooperative and the organization by Sue Wagner and Judy Boggs was excellent. Entertainment was provided by the band BOOMERANG giving us lively renditions of many of the well-recognized and well-remembered tunes from years ago. A surprise gift basket was won by new member C. J. Keudell. Everyone enjoyed the change in venue and the fellowship and (in spite of occasional difficulty in talking above the music) camaraderie of the evening. Back to normal routines next week, the first week in August. SEE PHOTOS...
What can we learn from those on the ground and committed to peacebuilding in Palestine and Israel? In a July 7 New York Times OpEd, Nicholas Kristof pointed to several persons whom he describes as “followers of Martin Luther King, Jr., in the West Bank.” On our recent solidarity delegation to the West Bank, our group met these and other Palestinian advocates—practitioners—of nonviolence. What a shame that, until very recently, mainstream media has failed to interview, quote and point to these incredible human beings, leaving most Americans with the notion that Palestinians hate Jews at best and are terrorists at worst. If possible, join our discussion on Wednesday August 7 from 1:15-2:15 in the Columbine Room at the Lincoln Center.
