Update on Northern Colorado Water
On Wednesday, 18 September 2024, Jeff Stahla, public information officer at Northern Water, will update our Club on local water projects. Northern Water manages the CBT project that supplies water to over 1 million people. The area includes some of the fastest-growing cities in Colorado and about 615,000 acres of irrigated agricultural land. Jeff will review the colorful history of water use in our Region and ways in which water has been distributed widely over the last century. Recently, water management challenges have increased dramatically with rapid regional growth while wildland fires have devastated many of the watersheds and precipitation has become erratic and unreliable. How will Northern Water respond? How will the citizens respond? Jeff will have the answers.
In its inaugural year, eight Leadership Academy students attended three hour sessions once per month on topics including personal leadership, strategic planning, change management, and more. The cohort also presented tactical options to achieve our club's strategic goals at a Board of Directors Meeting. Congratulations to our 2024 graduates!
Our club proudly supports Finally Home, a local nonprofit that supports foster, adoptive, and kinship families. In a recent newsletter, Finally Home shared one way our club has impacted their mission:
"Our Solid Rock Students recently enjoyed a day at Sky Corral Ranch, where they enjoyed great weather, fun, and adventure. Thanks to funding from Rotary Club of Fort Collins, 17 students and 14 volunteers completed a service project, fished, swam, played games, made crafts, and went rock climbing and paddle boarding. They made new friendships and even spotted a bear and several deer!"
