Realities for Children
This Wednesday, July 24th, Tanner Massey will introduce our speakers from Realities For Children, Craig Secher and Mehgan Castor. Realities For Children provides for the emergency and ongoing support needs of children in Northern Colorado who have been abused, neglected, or are at-risk. They have been serving children since 1995. Craig Secher is the Founder and Executive Director of Realities For Children. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point with a degree in Psychology and an emphasis in Human Services. He then worked in the child protection field in Larimer County, including work as a Child Protection Ongoing Case Manager with the Larimer County Department of Human Services. Mehgan Castor graduated from Westmont College with a B.A. in Communication Studies and Biblical Studies. She served as a Realities For Children Ambassador and volunteer before joining the team as the Community Outreach Coordinator. READ MORE...
Harper Feeders: 65,000 Sheep and Counting (Evening Meeting)
Mike Harper, owner of a fourth generation, family owned and operated feedlot in Eaton, Colorado, will be joined by his daughter Catherine to talk about the lamb industry to the Evening meeting at 5:30pm this Wednesday at Purpose Brewery. Members can look forward to learning about the lamb industry, the difference between domestic and imported, and how their operation plays a huge role in our local lamb market. Don’t be surprised if your outlook on lamb changes after experiencing this program!
Last Wednesday our featured speaker was KUNC reporter and host, Emma VandenEinde who shared her research and reporting which resulted in a KUNC 3-part story Saving Amache: The Community Effort to Preserve a Bitter History. Stacy Plemmons introduced Tammy Terwelp, President and CEO of KUNC who introduced Emma. Emma shared her report on Amache, one of ten incarceration camps in the US that housed Japanese Americans during WWII. Emma is a KUNC reporter who also does feature stories (heard on NPR programs like Here and Now, Science Friday and The World). The Board has approved Ramesh Akkina for membership. Ramesh is an internationally recognized virus researcher currently working as a Professor of Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology at Colorado State University. Trained as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in India, he added a PhD in Veterinary Microbiology from the University of Minnesota and Postdoctoral Fellow from UCLA to his credentials. A friend to many current Rotary Club of Fort Collins members, he is married to Dr. Judy Akkina and is looking forward to giving back to our community.
The Board has approved C.J. Keudell for membership. C.J. is a native Oregonian who retired and moved from Texas to Fort Collins with his wife Laura in April. He has thirty years' experience working in higher education, most recently as the Assistant Dean for Financial Affairs for the College of Education at UT Austin. He holds a Master of Science in Exercise & Sport Science from the University of Arizona, and a B.S. Degree from Oregon State University. C.J. and Laura are already active supporters of CSU athletics and Lincoln Center productions, and are thoroughly enjoying the many outdoor activities available as Colorado residents.
Fall Cornhole League signups are officially open. Please call, text, or email Riley Spight if you would like to play on one of the Rotary cornhole teams and he will work to get you signed up and on the team.
