The Emma Malaby Grocery is one of Fort Collins’s oldest buildings. In this talk, Meg Dunn will recount the origins of the building, what it was like to live downtown in the 1880s, the moving of the building, our earliest African American community, a tragic murder-suicide, and more. The building was recently donated to Historic Larimer County and is currently being prepared to be opened to the public for the first time in decades.
Meg Dunn is a University of Michigan graduate and was formerly a math teacher in both Detroit and San Francisco. She transitioned to volunteering in the Poudre School District when her kids entered elementary school in 2003. Thus began her “full-time volunteer” career. In 2014, Meg took over the Forgotten Fort Collins website, which morphed into NorthernColoradoHistory.com in 2017. She sat on the Fort Collins Historic Preservation Commission for nine years and is currently the president of the Fort Collins Historical Society and vice-president on the board of Historic Larimer County.
