Since 1996, the Rotary Club of Fort Collins has recognized a Teacher of the Month, selected by the Poudre School District and honored by the Club as an outstanding representative of the profession and member of the community.

 
 
Henry Weisser introduced the Teacher of the Month program for December at our Christmas party. Principal Steve Apodaca of Putnam Elementary School described our Teacher of the Month, Eileen Moore, as a compassionate, hard working person who always gave 100% to her students.
 

Eileen described the difficult and sometimes tragic situations that kindergarten and first grade Putnam students encounter. Putnam is a school where 90% of the students need assistance to pay for lunch. She acknowledged that she took on a hard but nonetheless gratifying job...

 
 
 
Henry Weisser introduced Amy Smythe, principal of Bennett Elementary School, to introduce the Teacher of the Month. Ms. Smythe said that the Teacher of the Month, Kurt Woolner, was nominated by his peers and that in student input about Kurt, one student commented that he is “cool”...
 
 
 
Garth McCann introduced Sandy Bickel, the principal of Weber Middle School, to introduce the Teacher of the Month. First Garth informed us that Sandy was retiring this year after 53 years in the Poudre School District, 13 as a student and 40 as a staff member. Sandy introduced Shannon Dreessen, a Family Consumer Sciences teacher. Ms. Bickel said the reason Shannon was selected was because she was caring and inclusive of all students and had their trust, respect and now love of her students. Henry Weisser introduced the principal of Blevins Middle School, David Linehan, to introduce the Teacher of the Month. Principal Linehan, at Blevins for 14 years, said he was proud of the students and staff and that our future was in good hands. He said that the Teacher of the Month, Steve Gravelle, was picked because the students rally around him, trust and respect him, look at him as a role model and are inspired by him. Henry Weisser introduced the principal of Kinard Core Knowledge Middle School, Joe Cuddemi, to introduce the Teacher of the Month. Mr. Cuddemi told us about recently being nominated by the Colorado Department of Education as 1 of 3 schools in the State of Colorado to apply for the 2015USDE Blue Ribbon School Award! Schools that are nominated for this award are selected based on data that demonstrates consistently high trends in academic achievement over a 3-5 year period. He then introduced Cecilia Bonertz, a 7th and 8th grade math teacher as the Teacher of the Month by praising several of her values and achievements...
 
 
 
Henry Weisser introduced Alica Bono, the Principal of Cache La Poudre (CLP) Middle School to introduce the January Teacher of the Month, Mary Richmond. Principal Bone said that Mary was selected by the teachers and staff of CLP and was very deserving because she is the best teacher she has ever seen. She said that Mary teaches science to all grades at CLP, where she has taught for 22.5 years...
 
 
 
Henry Weisser introduced the Principal of Lincoln Middle School, Clay Gomez, to introduce the Teacher of the Month. Clay thanked our club for recognizing teachers. He told us that Lincoln had the largest growth in literacy in the district and that the Teacher of the Month was selected by her coleagues. Clay then introduced a 6th grade socal studies teacher, Gina Panighetti.

Gina started by saying that it was a great honor to be selected. She said that she wanted to be a teacher since she was in High School and is now in her 11th year. She stays in teaching because she loves the kids, all of the kids. Her theme for what she talked about was responsibility and community and she tries to create positive interactions in every instance of interaction with students...

 
 
 
Henry Weisser introduced the principal of Wellington Middle School, Alicia Durand, to introduce the Teacher of the Month, Bill Cleary. First Alicia thanked Rotary for all we do for education and PSD. Alicia said that Bill is only six years older than our Student of the Month. Bill is the Music Director for the school. He teaches Band and Orchestra and Chior for 6th, 7th and 8th grades...

He then introduced the Principal, Karen Koehn, of Rice Elementary school in Wellington to introduce the Teacher of the Month. Principal Koehn said that she sent an email to all parents, teachers and staff asking for nominations for the their candidate for Teacher of the Month. And the selection was Kristine McGraw who is currently a 4th grade teacher, but has also been a special education and kindergarten teacher...
 
 
 
Henry Weisser introduced the Blevins principal, David Linehan, to introduce the April Teacher of the Month. Mr. Linehan then introduced Kate Williams. Kate said "my goals as a citizen and a teacher are similar to the goals of your Rotary Club – make connections locally and globally and do your best to make a positive impact. That is my job as a role model for my students at Blevins Middle School and how I try to parent my own children and live my life.
