Classification Talks Committee – Lorraine Williams
Purpose
To schedule classification talks for all new members.
Guidelines
- Get the list of new members from Don Johnson.
- Contact new members to schedule classification talks at a regular Rotary meeting.
- Notify Sergeant-at-Arms of scheduled talks.
- Get written text of talk for web master to include on Classification Talk web page.
Four-Way Test Committee – Tanis Roeder and Max Getts
Purpose
- To develop a program to introduce the Four-Way Test to organizations including schools and other Rotary clubs.
- To get Fort Collins Rotary club members involved in carrying out these programs.
- To share this Four-Way Test program with other Rotary clubs.
- To update the program on an ongoing basis.
Guidelines
- Work with Junior high-schools to schedule Four-Way Test sessions.
- Get Rotary club volunteers for the school sessions.
- Recognize Rotary volunteers for their efforts.
- Publicize this program in Rotary publications and at Rotary meetings.
- Provide program materials and literature for others to use.
BBB Four-Way Test Essay Contest – Lorna Reeves and Betty Seay
Purpose
To award a $5,000 scholarship each year to a high school junior or senior in the Mountain States Better Business Bureau (BBB) region for the best essay about "How the Rotary Four-Way Test Impacts My Life."
Guidelines
- Rotary Club(s) in each community of the BBB region need to establish a committee to administer the Four-Way Test essay contest.
- The administrative guidelines give timelines for the contest and indicate how the committees will work with schools to publicize the contest and determine each school’s top candidates.
- Essays must be the original work of the student and should be 1500-2000 words in length. Content should directly relate to ways in which the Four-Way Test has impacted the writer's life in the past or present, or may impact the writer's life in the future.
- Judging criteria has been established to make the judging fair. The criteris is made up of Content, Language, Organization, and a Brief Biographical Sketch of the student. These guidelines will be used at all levels of the contest.
- Rotary committees will pick the community winners then a BBB committee will judge essays from community finalists in a blind manner to select the final winner.
- The scholarship will be awarded at the BBB Torch Awards Business Ethics dinner each year.
Interact Committee – Claude Piché
Purpose
Interact is a service and social club for young people ages 14-18. There are two clubs in Ft Collins (Poudre High School and Fort Collins High School). The PHS club is sponsored by the Foothills Rotary Club and the FCHS club is sponsored by the Breakfast Club. Rotarians guide the Interactors in developing local and international service projects. Interact derives its name from the words "international" and "action," reflecting the nature of an organization that exists in 110 countries and promotes active service at home and abroad. With almost 200,000 members and more than 8,600 clubs worldwide, Interact provides a powerful force of youthful enthusiasm and energetic service. Guidelines
Our club is very much involved and, in 2007, organized a trip to Guatemala for Interactors to Guatemala for the construction of a Habitat for Humanity house. Members of the Rotary Club of Fort Collins are invited to participate in Interact projects and encourage these youth in their service projects. Anyone who is interested can contact Claude Piché.
Merit Badge University Committee – Michael Stradt
Purpose
To support the youth of our community through assisting boys, 11 to 17 years old, complete Boy Scout merit badges. It provides Rotarians a chance to share their profession or avocations with the young people of our community while providing the boys with an organized format to learn skills that will help them, and their community, for their entire lives.
Guidelines
- Merit Badge University occurs on the first two Saturdays of January, 8:00 to 12:00 am.
- Rotarians volunteer to teach or assist in a class room setting in one of 20-24 merit badges being offered. The list of badges is distributed in November along with a merit badge book and computer codes to help the instructors plan their presentation.
- Other Rotarians may volunteer to work the second Saturday by reviewing and checking off homework boys need to do for some badge requirements.
- Rotarians may determine if the boys may follow up with the Rotarian to complete any remaining requirements after the two one hour sessions or just continue through Boy Scout channels.
RotarAct Committee – Henry Ho
Purpose
- To provide an opportunity for young men and women to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development.
- To address the physical and social needs of their communities.
- To promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.
Guidelines
- Develop professional and leadership skills;
- Emphasize respect for the rights of others, and to promote ethical standards and the dignity of all useful occupations;
- Provide opportunities for young people to address the needs and concerns of the community and our world;
- Provide opportunities for working in cooperation with sponsoring Rotary Clubs;
- And motivate young people for eventual membership in Rotary.
RYLA & Young RYLA Committee – Lloyd Thomas
Purpose
- To interview and choose appropriate applicants for participation in both RYLA and Young RYLA
- To make RYLA and Young RYLA more visible in Ft. Collins and northern Colorado
- To encourage members of District Rotary Clubs to participate in the RYLA program
- To contact PSD counselors to inform them about RYLA-YRYLA and solicit their identification of student leaders and encourage them to apply
Guidelines
- Develop a selection process.
- Work with schools to get candidates.
- Selection criteria for students are: Character, Leadership potential, Extra-curricular activities, GPA, Desire to serve.
Student of the Month Committee – Matt Rankin
Purpose
To honor a high school student in the Poudre School District as the "Student of the Month".
Guidelines
- Work with schools to select candidates.
- Invite honorees to Rotary meeting on second Wednesday of month to receive award and give brief talk about activities.
- Present honored student with a placque.
- Invite members of the honorees school staff to award meeting to participate in introducing the student.
Teacher of the Month/and Year Committee – Garth McCann
Purpose
To honor outstanding teachers in the Poudre School District.
Guidelines
The Teacher-of-the-Month/Year program is a joint program in which the Rotary Club of Fort Collins, the Breakfast Club and the Foothills club all participate. Each month during the academic year, each of these three Rotary Clubs selects a teacher for recognition as that Club's Teacher-of- the-Month. Occasionally there is co-recognition. The recognized and honored teacher (s) comes to a Club meeting, makes a presentation and receives a plaque that commemorates her/his recognition. At the end of the year, a joint committee from the three clubs, selects a Teacher-of-the-Year and one or two runner (s)-up. These are recognized at a tri-club meeting held once a year. At this meeting the Teacher-of-the-Year and the runner (s)-up receive another plaque and the Teacher-of-the-Month/Year also is recognized with a Paul Harris Fellow.
ROTC Cadet of the Month Committee - Shelly Godkin
Purpose
To honor an ROTC Cadet at CSU as the "ROTC Cadet of the Month".
Guidelines
- Work with CSU to select candidates.
- Invite honorees to Rotary meeting to receive award and give brief talk about activities.
- Present honoree student with a placque.
