Today we learn ‘symphony’ from the masters. Myra Monfort will introduce recently named Fort Collins Symphony Executive Director, Teresa Kaptur and Music Director Wes Kenney. Teresa will share her excitement and thoughts on the future of FCSO, and maestro Kenney will introduce select members of the orchestra joining us today. In turn, the orchestra members will introduce their instrument, share a bit of their passion, and give insight to its contribution to a working symphony. We get to learn, while having culture!!
As the oldest established arts organization and the only professional symphonic orchestra in Larimer County, the Fort Collins Symphony Orchestra maintains a significant presence in the cultural life of Fort Collins and its surrounding areas. Started as an amateur, volunteer group of musicians in 1949, the professional orchestra that we see and hear today is an important cultural asset.

I was reminded by Ray Martinez that the first 27 seconds are critical. –Since we live in a culture of the “sound bite.” So be precise and eloquent.

After the usual introduction of visiting Rotarians and guests, Jan Bertholf exchanged club banners with assistant district governor Bryan Cooke who is also a member of the Greeley Rotary Club, our sponsoring club. Past presidents of our club and current board members then passed out commemorative coins of our 90th birthday. Members not attending can get the history booklet and coin from the secretaries’ table.
A birthday cake for the celebration was cut by the youngest member of our club, Jamie Grim, and by the longest serving member of the club, Eugene “Hud” Frink.
Bill Moellenhoff read parts of our club history while PowerPoint slides prepared by Jan showed additional information. Before Bill read each decade section, the Glenn Shull band played a song that represented that decade. Again after the meeting, the “Little Big Band” played. The committee that put together this program for our celebration deserves all of our congratulations for an outstanding job.
