Foothills Gateway
Foothills Gateway has been serving Fort Collins since 1972.  This week, Carl Maxey will introduce Nathan Scott, Foothills Gateway Community Relations Specialist, who will share background, mission and current programs with us.

Foothills Gateway is a local non-profit organization that provides services and support programs for individuals with cognitive disabilities and their families in Larimer County. These programs include training, supported employment, housing, habilitation, transportation, family support services, adult respite, early childhood intervention and case management for both children and adults.

Foothills Gateway’s mission is to advocate for and empower individuals with disabilities to lead lives of their choice. Their vision is: “We believe in a life of opportunity, of choice, and of dignity for every individual, regardless of age or ability”.

Nathan Scott is a US Navy Veteran (1991-95), and lives in Fort Collins with his wife and son. Nathan is an active member of the Overland SERTOMA Club.

Here is my weekly update as promised.  The status for volunteer sigh-ups is as follows:

1.       We have about 180 shifts filled and 200 to go.

2.       The number of shifts signed up by club:
a.       Breakfast:  44
b.       Foothills:  51
c.       RCFC:  52
d.       RCFC Satellite:  8
e.       RAW:  9
f.        Unknown/Other organizations:  17
3.       Shift slots open:
a.       Race:  22
b.       Breakfast: 0
c.       9:30 – 12:30: 22
d.       12:15 – 3:15: 73
e.       3:00 – 6:00:  85

As you can see, the morning shifts are filling, but we need a lot of volunteers in the afternoon!  We also need a lot more volunteers for the race marshal (cheer leader) position.  If you can join me, I think you'll agree this is a fun, low impact volunteer activity.  Also keep in mind there is a lot more shade in our new venue and should be cooler in the afternoon than it was at Hughes Stadium in the afternoon.

I know a lot of you sign up for morning shifts and then hang around if we need more help, but it would be more helpful if you could sign up for multiple shifts ahead of time (This would allow for me to reduce my stress level and get more sleep lol).  After this weeks meeting, I will begin calling members to get them signed up if we still have a significant shortage.  Please, please, please sign up and help me minimize the amount of begging I will have to do.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Tammy Niemann urged members to buy peaches to fund the purchase of more dictionaries.  Price:  $40 a box.

Don Eversoll reported that Carl Maxey has completed chemotherapy and is doing well. He is in the Anschutz Center satellite facility.

Don also said Dick Dunn should be returning in the very near future.

Pick up (or retrieve online) this year's financial commitment form. Turn it in in the next two or three weeks.

Sally Lee and Rob Marschke presented an $1800 check to Crossroads Safehouse as part of our community grants program. The funds will go toward counseling and advocacy for abused and at-risk children.

Sally Lee announced we received $250 from King Soopers.  Keep using those cards, everyone!

Jon Land from the Satellite Club urged everyone to buy tickets for their two-day event a month after the Peach Festival.  The competitive barbecue will be held at the Equine Center.  They also need volunteers for the event.

Lynne Baker, one of three co-chairs of the Centennial Committee, reported that much was being planned for our Centennial Year.  Culmination will be a dinner on August 1, 2018, at in the Stadium Club in the new CSU stadium.  Profits from sales of wreaths and flower baskets are helping to fund the activities.  She then announced that each member will be assessed $5 per quarter until our anniversary on the quarterly statement, as approved by our Board.

Stacy Plemmons asked for a volunteer to back up Erin Mounsey with production of the Rotogear and website content. Erin has had some life changes and will be taking a leave of absence shortly. The continuation of the resources is dependent upon your participation.

Our club provides many thousands of hours of volunteer service in addition to annual giving to charitable projects. Our giving to charitable projects has not grown to keep up with inflation and growing community needs. The RCFC Legacy Fund has established as an endowment that will provide supplemental funds into the foreseeable future for humanitarian and educational programs in and around Fort Collins. Your contributions to the Legacy Fund are tax deductible and will assure “Service in Action Forever”.
