Some politicians and pundits warn the US economy is being surpassed by China, and that the quantity of US national debt held by the Chinese is a danger. Others fear China's increasing military spending and bellicose foreign policy. This week Bill West will introduce Dr. Bob Lawrence who, in his trademark "bullish on America" style, will analyze US China relationships, and conclude we are in much better shape than the pessimists claim...

Dr. Lawrence followed his B.S. in Journalism from Kansas State University with service as an Air Force intelligence officer. Always one to balance allegiances, he then earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Kansas. Post doctorate, Bob became a research analyst at national security think tanks Hudson Institute and the Stanford Research Institute, while earning tenure at both Texas Tech and University of Arizona. He joined CSU in 1971, and continuing to balance allegiances; for ten of his 35 years at CSU he taught at CSU in the morning and CU in the afternoon. Dr. Lawrence is recognized regionally and nationally as an expert on military, strategic, diplomatic, and other topics of acute interest during the Cold War years. His many books are on American government, arms control and disarmament, ballistic missile defense, energy policy, the utility of nuclear weapons and their proliferation. As mentioned last week, Amy Parsons and a group of Dr. Lawrence’s former students have established the "Bob Lawrence Gateway to Law School Scholarship" in his honor.

Bob and his wife Elaine have four daughters and 11 grandchildren, three of whom were adopted from China.
