Kay Goeglein introduced Mark Reedy, a Rocky Mountain High School counselor, to introduce the September Student of the Month. Mark told us that the counselors team picks the SOM and usually there are several candidate that makes the process of picking the student difficult and time consuming. He said that when Josh Rhead’s name was suggested this year, all the counselors agreed immediately. Mark said that it was unanimous because Josh works very hard at sports, very hard at scholarship and most importantly because he is a very good person...

Josh started by saying the lunch was fantastic and he thanked us for having him as a guest and supporting his efforts in school and in the community. He said that his Psychology class was recently having a discussion about nature versus nurture and told us that he is a big believer in the nurture side of that discussion. He said that it is not what you were born with but how you deal with what you were given that makes you who you are. Josh gave us an example of his dedication and hard work at math. Since grade school he has excelled in and worked hard at math to the point that at the end of his sophomore year at Rocky he had completed all available math courses, including calculus 3.

Josh said that the same hard work has helped him strive for excellence in other areas. He is currently first in his class, has completed his Eagle Scout project, hopes he is a leader on his football team (plays both offence and defense), is a school peer counselor, is a math tutor with the most volunteer hours tutoring and is active in his church. In the future he is hoping to continue his attitude of service and to give back to his church that has helped guide him through life with a two year mission. Then he hopes to study Engineering in college. Josh ended by saying again that lunch was fantastic.
