Dennis Kaan introduced Capt. Andrew Pipes of Detachment 90 Air Force ROTC Unit to introduce the April Cadet of the Month, Cadet Ryer Porter. Captain Pipes is currently assigned as Recruiting Flight Commander. He also serves as Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies teaching AS101 to Colorado State Cadets. Previously he was assigned to the 6th Logistics Squadron, MacDill AFB, FL where he split time as Assistant Installation Deployment Officer. Captain Pipes earned his commission from the United States Air Force Academy in 2009...

After thanking our club for all that we do to support the ROTC program at CSU, Captain Pipes said that Cadet Porter is a AS 100 cadet, meaning Freshman, who was picked for his academic and leadership qualities. He said that Cadet Porter has displayed a level of maturity not generally shown by Freshman.

Cadet Porter told us that he is from Monument, CO, which is very close to the Air Force Academy. Being close to the Air Force Academy affected his choice of careers, he wanted to serve our country and in particular to be an Air Force Officer. He is studying Civil Engineering and wants to be a pilot in the Air Force. If pilot training was not available, he would like to use his Civil Engineering training to act as an Engineer in the Air Force. He thanked our club and the ROTC staff for picking him for this honor, especially because he is a Freshman.
