Wednesday, May 4, we celebrate Scholarship and Fellowship when the RCFC Scholarship Committee plus this year’s scholarship winners help us celebrate and declare our support for higher education.  This year our club and family donors will grant 11 scholarships.  Our program host, in her first year as Committee Chair, will be Susan Gutowsky.

Our keynote speaker will be Nicole McAuliffe, who will talk about the exciting educational opportunities awaiting our scholarship winners, and share how she balanced CSU studies while coaching the Fort Collins High School girls’ basketball team.   Nicole exemplifies how young people can experience success by mindfully setting personal and career goals and working to achieve them.

Nathan Korinek, current president of the CSU/FRCC ROTARACT chapter will encourage our scholars to expand their college education through ROTARACT service projects.

In addition to the nine RCFC funded scholarships, two scholarships have been underwritten by families of former Rotarians.  The James Morrison Memorial Scholarship was established by Mrs. June Ogden in memory of her father, James Morrison, a Rotarian, who served as Director of Cooperative Extension at Colorado A & M (now Colorado State University).

The Richard W. Schump Memorial Scholarship was established by David and Liz Schump in memory of their son, Richard.  It is generously continued by the Schump family after the untimely death of David and Liz in 2011.

Before and during the program, we will have an opportunity to meet the student scholarship recipients.

This year your Rotary Scholarship Committee and PSD Staff dedicated many hours to reviewing over 60 applications, interviewing 21 students and selecting 11 recipients based on need, scholarship, community service and leadership.  The applicants exhibited great skills, talents, creativity, work ethic and service to our community, and each deserves our support.  Rotarians who participated in the selection and the planning include Phyllis Abt, Del Benson, Judy Boggs, Betty Brown, Jean Griswold, Susan Gutowsky, Jud Harper, Sally Lee, Rob Marschke, Bob Meroney, Ralph Smith and Robin Steel.  Thank you for your service to our young people!
